Shades of Silver

Lately I'm just loving the dark patina that can be given to sterling silver. I love to brightly polish the raised bits while the dark lurks in the recessed areas of a wire wrap. For these earrings I kept it simple: longer handmade earwires with drops of color that are messily wrapped in silver.  I think they are too sweet! Now available in my Etsy shop.

Pearls and Holiday Cheer

Happy Thanksgiving to all! May your belly be full and your heart be glad.  I adore Thanksgiving, as it serves as a good reminder to embrace, appreciate and share as we enter the winter holiday season.

I've returned to my old muse, the pearl, for inspiration.  I want to create classic jewelry that a girl can reach for season after season.  I think pearls are the loveliest, most wondrous treasure from the natural world.  So many shapes and colors can be created. Thank you Mr. Oyster.

metal, flame, and hammers and files. or forays into handmade earwires.

I have a torch. I have the metal. I would really, really love to make my own earwires and findings. I feel it would add an extra dimension to my handmade pieces, and give my designs an even more unique identity. So, one studio-Sunday afternoon I begin to play. I'm balling wire. I'm dipping it in pickle. I'm forging shapes with an anvil and hammer. I'm polishing and filing and smoothing....I'm having so much fun! I should have been doing this ages ago. I've started with three pairs of classically simple earrings. Beautiful pearls and semiprecious stones dropping from my new handmade earwires. Be on the lookout for more!

DIY Inspiration

My latest botanical interests are leaning heavily towards succulents and ferns. Ferns, in particular, remind me of childhood years spent in Western Washington when camping in the forests of the Cascades transported me to a magical land of make believe.

Upon seeing the fronds of a fern uncurling and stretching out it's green new-ness, I get giddy with those memories and reminisce about the deep earth smells of bark and moss. This DIY idea from the geniuses at DesignSponge is a really beautiful way to preserve something you love, and decorate a lonely wall at the same time! Brilliant!

A Walk in the Park

One of our favorite things to do is to go for an evening stroll. We are lucky enough to live near a wonderful park filled with old trees, owls and squirrely squirrels. Often after dinner, when the summer sun is setting, we meander through the trees and and fill our lungs with the bark-sweet summertime air.

Hope your summer is peaceful and full of the simple things that make life so magical!
